A Design Study in Ductile Iron - Dotson Company Pivot Frame

Final Mold Design

Pattern for Top Half (Cope) of the Mold

Pattern for Bottom Half (Drag) of the Mold (Dotson)

  • The photos above show the top and bottom halves of the pattern.

    • The patterns are machined out of aluminum to maintain tolerances and give a long tool life.

  • The top and bottom halves of the mold are formed by packing green sand around the match plate in the metal mold boxes.

  • The six cores (formed with isocure sand)are positioned in the finished mold.

  • One pivot plate frame is cast in each sand mold.
