Option A - Chills over the Rib Sections

In Option A, the
chills are over the rib sections between the risers.
These chill locations are not optimal -
- The thicker rib sections will freeze early and restrict
molten metal feed into the lower sections of the ribs.
- With chills over the ribs, the center sections of the
plates may solidify late and be isolated from the risers.
- Without sufficient molten metal feed from the risers,
solidification shrinkage may form in the top plate and the ribs.
