Rib Design for Cost Savings and Strength Improvement |
The casting designer
has three options in redesigning the stiffening ribs --
Option A -- Angle
the ribs around the bolt slots to provide the needed clearance for the bolt washers.
Option B -- Angle the ribs around the bolt
slots and increase the thickness of the ribs to add strength and stiffness.
Option
C -- Thicken the ribs and shift them to 0o, 90o,
180o and 270o to provide clearance for the bolt holes.
