placement and alignment.
- The case has a 30" cube envelope and a 155# cast weight.
Minimum wall thicknesses are on the order of 0.160".
- Extensive machining is required for mounting, alignment and
mating features. The critical dimensional tolerance for as-cast surfaces is +/- 0.04
inches.
- The transmission case was designed from the start as a
casting; a component of this complexity could not be produced reliably and economically by
welding
