The Steel Casting Construction Consortium (SC3) welcomes you.
Steel Founders’ Society of America (SFSA) is a technical association. Members of SFSA are steel foundries who supply a range of cast steel products for demanding environments such as railroad, mining, construction, military, and nuclear. SFSA can assist you in utilizing steel castings for building construction. Steel castings offer performance, aesthetics, design freedom, and green manufacturing (LEED).
In 2002, SFSA member companies established a specific initiative, named the Steel Casting Construction Consortium (SC3), to develop opportunities for steel castings in building construction. At that time, steel castings were commonly used as connectors for other industries such as pump/valves, railroad, and construction; however, they were not commonly used for building construction. SFSA partnered with the American Institute of Steel Construction, AISC, and their supporting members, such as Magnusson Klemencic Associates, to understand requirements and identify applications for steel castings. SFSA supported initiatives to utilize steel castings in steel structures with Dr. Jeff Packer and Dr. Robert Fleischman. The work done at the University of Toronto led to the successful start-up company, Cast Connex - which applies the architectural and structural use of cast steel components to building structures.
