The board of directors is responsible for setting the mission and strategic direction of the organization and oversight of the finances, operations, and policies of the organization. Key to the board’s success is the established procedures to ensure that its members have the requisite skills and experience to carry out their duties and that all members understand and fulfill their governance duties acting for the benefit of the organization and its public purpose. Furthermore, the board ensures that the organization has the capacity to carry out its programs effectively.
The SFSA Board of Directors is composed of the President and the Directors.
Representatives on the Board of Directors are elected by the members of the Society. Directors-at-Large are elected by the Board of Directors at its June meeting. All newly elected Directors take office following the Annual Meeting.
Generally, there are three meetings of the Board each year:
- a meeting in January
- a spring meeting in June
- a fall meeting usually held in conjunction with the Annual Meeting of the Society in early autumn
