In considering the physical
size, production quantity, complexity, tolerance requirements, and cost targets for the
floatwall panels, two variations of the disposable pattern molding process had potential
application for producing the panels-
- Investment Casting
-- the casting is produced in a mold formed by coating a wax pattern with a ceramic shell.
- Lost Foam Casting
- the casting is produced in a mold formed by compacting sand around a expendable
polystyrene pattern.
