An Example in Ductile Iron Casting  Axle Housing for Skid-Steer Loader

Cylinder Design with Cost/Weight Savings and Strength Improvement
With casting design flexibility, there are opportunities to reduce machining stock and excess weight and to reduce stresses through optimized geometry and generous rounding.

The drawing to the right shows five potential features for near-net shaping and stress reduction.

#1 -- Radius at the Top Outer Edge

#2 -- Top Bearing Pockets

#3 -- Axle Shaft Hole

#4 -- Internal Wall Thickness

#5 -- Fillet at Cylinder Base
